Semi-finalists announced: Semi-finalists will be announced to the full CWR membership and posted on this page after judging is completed for the video round. Seven semi-finalists will be selected in each category or sub-category, and posted in alphabetical order. All first round comment sheets and scores will be available to teachers at this time.
Pianists: Semi-finalists can bring their own pianist or use a CWR staff pianist. Teachers of semi-finalists will receive a form to confirm student participation and pianist plans. Our pianist coordinator, Susan Wong, will be assigning staff pianists in the week after the semi-finalists are announced. For categories with 2 or 3 songs, the fee for the staff pianist is $40; for 4 or 5 songs, the fee is $50. This covers both the semi-final and final, and must be paid in advance via Paypal. Rehearsals are at the discretion of the pianist; we cannot guarantee their availability to rehearse, and they determine their rehearsal fees.
Judging: All teachers with students in the semi-finals/finals are expected to judge in Long Beach or provide a substitute. No exceptions. Please expect to judge multiple categories throughout the day on Saturday, January 14.
Semi-finals: On January 14, the seven semi-finalists in each category will offer the same repertoire as in the first round. Singers will select their first piece, and the judges will select the next. The time limits for the categories will be observed, meaning that students will have the opportunity to sing for the allotted time, not for a particular number of pieces. Students will be scored and receive comments using the same forms as the first round.
Finals: To be eligible for the finals students must 1. Score in the top 3 in their category and 2. Meet one of the following criteria: Average score above/equal to 90 or 2 scores equal to/greater than 90. The finals will take place on Sunday, January 15 in the afternoon. All members of NATS will be eligible to judge all categories. Judging will consist of ranking the 3 finalists in each category. Winners will be announced at the closing ceremony.
National YouTube round eligibility: To be eligible for the National auditions, students must 1. Score in the top 5 in their category; 2. Meet one of the following criteria: Average score above/equal to 90 or 2 scores equal to/greater than 90 and 3. Be in one of the advancing categories(pdf). The list of eligible students will be sent to Nationals, and those students will be able to participate in the YouTube round, using the same repertoire used in the Regional auditions.
