For the 2023 Cal-Western Regional Auditions, we will be holding our first ever hybrid auditions.
The first round will take place virtually, following a similar process to the last two years. The semi-finals and finals will take place in person on January 14 and 15, 2023 at the 2023 Cal-Western Regional Conference in Southern California.
Round 1- Virtual: Teachers will register their students on AuditionWare. Registration will open October 6, 2022 and will close at midnight on November 7, 2022. Information to be submitted includes student and teacher contact information, along with YouTube links for the student’s videos. For more detailed information on registering, please go to Registration. For information about student categories and repertoire, please go to Categories/Repertoire. For information about video requirements, please go to Video Requirements.
Vetting: The vetting period is November 8-14. Our wonderful vetting volunteers will check entries and give teachers and students the opportunity to remediate any problems to avoid disqualification.
Judging: Judging assignments will be sent on November 15. In order for a student to participate in either the virtual or in-person rounds, their teacher must judge or provide a substitute judge at the time of registration. If a teacher is submitting more than fifteen entries (one student entered in 2 categories counts as 2 entries), they will need to provide an extra judge. Teachers should expect to judge at least one or two categories; this is not dependent on the number of students submitted. For more information, please go to Judging. Judging assignments are due
December 5.
Semi-finals- in person: The top 7 students in each category/sub-category will be invited to a live semi-final audition on Saturday, January 14, at the 2023 Cal-Western NATS Regional Conference. Semi-Finalists will be announced by December 7. Semi-finalists will present their repertoire to a panel of three judges who will provide scores and comments. Again, all teachers with students participating in the semi-finals will be required to judge throughout the day. Results will be announced as they are tallied.
Finals- in person: The top 3 students in each category/sub-category will perform in the finals on Sunday, January 15. All NATS members present will be invited to rank the students in each category. After the final scores are tallied, the top 3 will be announced Sunday evening. The top 5 in each category/sub category will be eligible for the National You-Tube round and will be posted on our website following the finals.
